Ultrafuse’s 316L is a filament that produces 316L-grade steel parts. The material consists of 80% stainless steel and 20% polymer content, allowing efficient 3D printing with FDM or FFF 3D printers. This printable high-quality steel is said to bring design freedom and will allow you to make industrial-level parts wherever you please.
Utrafuse’s 316L is also known as marine-grade steel due to its exceptional resistance to corrosion at high temperatures and its high resistance to oxidation. The model or part that you print with this filament is known as a green part which can later be further processed to receive its final properties. BASF has multiple Debinding & Sintering networks for users to send their green parts. The D&S process will ensure that the printed part fully performs the mechanical properties of 316L. This can be a smart and cost-effective way to print metal parts at a fast pace without requiring the traditional industrial metallic 3D printers. Both the Bowden and direct drive systems can be used to print this material. Please take into account that working with this material requires substantial 3D printing experience and knowledge.
To successfully 3D print Ultrafuse’s 316L filament, have a nozzle temperature ranging between 230°C-250°C with a bed temperature of 90°C-120°C.
